A Consultation of Multi department stakeholders was held on 25.02.2022 in Thiruvannamalai district on the topic of prevention, reduction, and solution of sexual violence against women at District Superintendent of Police Training Hall. The consultation was organized by ADECOM Network Coordinating with the Department of Social Welfare and Women’s Rights Department, the District Legal Services Authority, the Police Department, and Women Empowerment Trust with the support of Maitri Network.
Hona’ ble Mr. Eshwaramoorhy Chief Judicial Magistrate / Secretary of District Legal Services Authority, Mr. Pawan Kumar District Superintendent of Police, and Mr. Rajagaleswaram Additional Superintendent of Police, Ms. Lalidamballe Managing Trustee of ADECOM Network was were addressed the gathering.
Mr. Udhaya kumar, Advocate, Chennai high court, Ms. Elizebeth Rani, Admin OSC, Mr. Murugan, Child line, Ms. Kavitha Inspector was presented the current issues of women and women children facing and what kind of cases they are receiving and handling, what kind of legal issues there are facing in Thiruvannamalai district.
The important point was discussed is,
- The laws for women and girls are strict. But there are problems in implementing it. This kind of consultation should be conducted to get rid of it and advocacy should be given to the Government of Tamil Nadu.
- The first information report for domestic violence cases should be duly recorded and action taken. In which the authorities should not be negligent. This is because sexual violence against many women is caused by family members. So the authorities should take it seriously and take action.
- A monitoring committee headed by the district collector should be formed and all departmental officers should be appointed as members. Particularly. Police department, DLSA, Social welfare, OSC, Childline, CWC, Women and child development department and local NGO’s) they should hold a consultation once a month on how to expedite the cases of women victimized by them.
- Additional police officers should be appointed in all-women police stations. Because of their workload, they were unable to pursue the case.
