State Level Advocacy & Lobbying on Prevention, Protection & Redressal on Violence Against Women

State level advocacy and lobbying on Prevention, Protection and Redressal on violence against women ( A Consultant Meeting) in Pondicherry organised by ADECOM Network with the support of MAITRI Network on 22.03.2022 at Sunway Mannar, Pondicherry.

The consultation begins with brief background information on crime against women situation in Tamilnadu and Pondicherry.

The discussion held in the consultation on sexual violence, work place harrassment, domestic violence, violence against children, problems in implemention of law and ideas and suggestions to meet the challenges.

The concept note was given to the participants prior. And also participant’s were given to the 10 important points to discuss to end the VAW in Pondicherry and Tamilnadu. Accordingly, Participants cameup with so many suggestions to effectively combat VAW.
Few suggestions,

  1. Infrastructure in judiciary mechanism is very less, under staffing of court official, and other judiciary methods in felt in slow pace of justice.
  2. 2012 amendment draft should be executed to give interim orders power to PO’s and NGOS
  3. Destitute victim to be provided safe home interim accommodation to support rather then send to oppressor during judicial proceedings. etc.,

Those suggestions will be consider to draft a paper in coming month. And it will be published and given to concern authority to make women friendly law police’s to victimized women get justice soon.

Mr. Vallavan, IAS, District Collector and District judge presided over the discussion and given the special address to the participants.
Mr. Udhayakumar, IAS, secratary, pondicherry, Dr. V. J. Chanthiran, IPS, IGP, Ms. Muthu Meena, Director, Women and child development department, Ms. Amutha deputy director, WCD. has given the special address to the participants.

There are 65 members participated in this consultation. Such as, District collector and district judge-1, Secratary-1,IGP-1, Director of Women and child development department -1, Deputy director of WCDD -1, Sub inspector -1,Protection officer -4, former public prosecutor-1, DLCC member -1, law professor -1, Human resource development specialist -1, Chairman of CWC -1, CWC member-2, advocate 7,DWCD member -1, NGO representatives -15,media persons- 10,ADECOM staff members – 15
