The Balika Panchayat gathered in Zakham Pettai Village with 18 dedicated members present, including Mr. Lakshamipathy from the Women’s Dignity Center and Mr. Ettyappan, a psychological consultant. The meeting was convened to discuss progress on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and address crucial community issues.

Meeting Highlights:

1. Educational Empowerment: Members emphasized the importance of quality education. Efforts were directed towards ensuring children attend school regularly and participate in evening educational sessions.
2. Gender Equality: The Panchayat reaffirmed its commitment to promoting gender equality, urging members to advocate for equal rights at home and in society.
3. Water and Sanitation: Concerns were raised about clean drinking water in Guruvamma Petty village. Plans were made to petition the Panchayat council president for regular cleaning of water tanks using bleaching powder.
4. Environmental Conservation: In line with World Environment Day, members pledged to plant saplings in their homes and at Government Adi Dravidar Health High School next week to enhance environmental sustainability.
5. Child Welfare and Safety: The meeting focused on protecting vulnerable children, encouraging members to report cases of orphaned or destitute children to the Villupuram District Child Protection Office. Measures were discussed to ensure children’s safety through sports and awareness campaigns.
6. Health Awareness: With the onset of monsoon, concerns were raised about stagnant water leading to mosquito-borne diseases. Members were advised to take preventive measures and promote children’s health through active play.
