Empowered Fellows, Safer Communities: Puducherry Training for Social Change

The ADECOM Network conducted a comprehensive capacity-building training for Maitri Network fellows at the Youth Hostel in Puducherry on 08-09, November 2024. The two-day program brought together district-level fellows, comprising case workers and preventionists, to enhance their skills and knowledge. According to Mr. Perumal, Managing Trustee, the training aimed to enhance systematic fieldwork approaches, develop effective case management and prevention strategies, foster collaboration and knowledge sharing among fellows, and support survivors of sexual violence through psychological and mental health interventions.

The training commenced with an inaugural address by Dr. Poorani, setting the tone for an engaging and informative session. Participants gained valuable insights into teamwork, organizational culture, and the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing. Mr. Shanmugasundharam, retired Superintendent of Police, delivered a crucial session on new laws supporting women survivors, highlighting the role of social work in investigation and evidence collection, identification of evidence, and witness support for case convictions.

Mr. Shanmugasundharam also emphasized the three-part intervention strategy: prevention, response, and rehabilitation. By empowering Maitri Network fellows, the training ensured a comprehensive approach to supporting survivors of sexual violence. The program successfully equipped participants with essential skills and knowledge, fostering a collaborative and effective response to sexual violence.
