A Balika Panchayat meeting was held on 11 December 2025 at Peramandur, with the participation of 16 members, focusing on the prevention of child marriage and protection of the girl child.
The session, conducted by the Coordinator of ADECOM Women’s Dignity Centre, included interactive activities, group discussions, and awareness sessions. Children were informed that anyone below 18 years is considered a child, and that marriage below 18 for girls and below 21 for boys is a punishable offence under law.
Participants learned about child-related observance days, legal rights, safety measures, and the importance of reporting child marriage through the Childline 1098 helpline. The programme also highlighted the physical and emotional impacts of early marriage, the importance of consent, and ensuring equal opportunities for girls.
The session encouraged unity, confidence, and awareness among the children and concluded with a vote of thanks by PLV Mrs. Chitra.
