A Balika Panchayat meeting was successfully conducted on 20 December 2025 at Jakkam Pettai, with the active participation of 17 adolescent girls. The session focused on creating strong awareness about the harmful impacts of child marriage and the importance of girl child protection.

PLV Ms. Chitra from the ADECOM Women’s Dignity Centre, Tindivanam, engaged the participants through interactive games and group discussions, making the learning process both effective and engaging. The girls were sensitized about the legal age of marriage, the physical and psychological consequences of early marriage, and the fact that child marriage is a punishable offence under law.

The session also provided information on reporting child marriage through the Childline 1098 helpline, emphasized girls’ rights, the importance of consent in marriage, equal educational opportunities, and protection against forced marriages. Through real-life examples and activities, the meeting empowered the girls with knowledge, confidence, and unity to stand up for their rights.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Balika Panchayat representative Ms. Anushka, marking the end of a meaningful and impactful session dedicated to safeguarding the future of girls.
